Stefan Fabry has been studying dance since the early 90ties of the last century, building organically on his early training in martial arts. He began his intensive dance training with Tanz Projekte Köln, where he trained full time for three years under the guidance of James Saunders, Rob McWilliams, and Frey Faust. Today, he studies, assists, and collaborates with Rudy Perez, his dance mentor since 1997, and has performed with Perez at Orpheum Theater. 2007 he has been invited as an assistant teacher to the ADF - North American Dance Festival at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
A versatile, committed performer with a powerful presence, Fabry has performed at venues across Southern California including REDCAT, Pasadena City College, and Highways Performance Space. His evolving body of original choreography includes the critically acclaimed solo "Gonna Stay" (2003) and the full-length piece "We Will Go Outside Where The Wild Wind Blows" (2006). Fabry draws on improvisational dance as a key inspiration.
He has studied Contact Improvisation (CI) for over 15 years beginning with Rusty Lester, and performed CI extensively with Shel Wagner Rasch and Stephanie Nugent at venues such as the West Coast Contact Improvisation Festival (WCCIF) and the Los Angeles Improv Dance Festival. He taught a one year Contact improvisation Curriculum in Culver City and is being invited to teach on the West coast (Loyola Marymount University, UCLA, San Diego, Bay Area) on a regular basis.
Stefan started dancing Tango after seeing it danced on the street by Mitra Martin and Moti Moses Buchboot with whom he then started out learning. Continued learning from numerous Argentine teachers while traveling, and has been influenced most by '8th Style' mastermind Jaimes Friedgen; and as a constant companion/ teacher Mitra Martin. He is teaching in Los Angeles since 2005 together with Mitra, building a committed and solid dance community. He has been performing Tango in numerous local venues since beginning 2006.
